Sephutile Mhlongo

Chief Impact and Strategy Officer
Founding Board Member

Sephutile is an economist with over five years of work experience in public financial management, education, healthcare and more recently in social housing. She is currently pursuing a Master’s in Business and Management at the University of Stirling in Scotland, United Kingdom.

Sephutile is a co-founder of The Knowledge Institute (TKI), a non-profit organisation that was created in 2013 to disseminate information on available opportunities for higher education and increase educational access to high school graduates in the Kingdom of Eswatini. Through TKI, she was awarded Her Majesty the Queen’s Commonwealth Point of Light in 2018, but more recently, she was part of the team that earned a $20,000 grant as the winning team of the 20th annual MIT IDEAS Social Innovation Challenge in April 2021.

Having interned with Eswatini’s Central Bank and worked for the country’s Ministry of Finance, Sephutile believes that young people’s role in governance must transcend participation in the decision-making process towards giving equal decision-making powers in public policy formulation, implementation, and national governance. In 2019, she was recognized by the European Commission as an EDD young leader, where she participated in a high-level panel on ‘Fighting Inequality through Fair Taxation and Public Service Provision for All’.
