Lourence, 23, is an advocate of inclusive governance and participatory decision-making. He presently works at the Senate of the Philippines and he situates his public service career in the intersection of development policy, inclusive democracy, and global governance. Prior to working in the government, he worked with two USAID-funded international development projects implemented by Chemonics International and the American Chamber of Commerce which cemented his skills in project management, policy advocacy, and development research.
Lourence carries over eight years of experience in leading local and global organizations centered on community development, leadership and volunteerism, and sustainable social impact. Since 2017, Lourence has been involved with the US-based nonprofit organization MCW Global where he received the first Roberta Richin Memorial Vision Plan Award in 2017 for his self-developed library project in an underprivileged community in the Philippines which emerged on top of 30+ other initiatives across the world. Since then, he had the opportunity to mentor emerging community leaders from Indonesia, Fiji, Egypt, Brazil, and Tajikistan through a series of year-long leadership incubator programs. Lourence has also served as a Board Director of the ASEAN-Australia Strategic Youth Partnership Ltd, a registered youth-led charity in Australia aimed at building strong relations among young people across the region.
In 2019, he was recognized by the European Commission as a Young Leader for Development and as a Young ASEAN Leader by the CIMB Foundation in 2016. Lourence holds BA and MA degrees in Political Economy wioth a specialization in International Relations and Development.
