Evangelista is a graduate marine biologist at Sea Women of Melanesia Inc. with an emerging executive role as the director and public officer. She has just completed a Bachelor of Science degree in biological sciences from the University of Papua New Guinea. She has strong social development experience with a Leadership focused certificate from the Kokoda Track Foundation Scholarship, and is one of 8 Archer Leadership Scholars for 2019.
She has led a team of young women at the University of Papua New Guinea who are passionate about marine conservation, and also has a vast experience of spearheading and participating in various community youth projects including; the Madang Students Association’s donation of medical equipment to Modilon General hospital in 2018, solarbuddy lights distribution to Asuramba care center and Climate Change Tribe awareness and mangrove planting in Madang Province.
Evangelista has a demonstrated history of working with the Porgera Gold Mine as a trainee scientist, and has been an enthusiastic volunteer with Kokoda Track Foundation and Coral Sea Foundation in 2020. As a young scientist, she wants to carry out research to fill the knowledge gap and utilise her learned or acquired skills to apply problem-solving skills to address significant challenges which can potentially erode the livelihoods and sustainable impact projects of the country, that are likely to delay or deter us from achieving our goals.
